This tool assumes 12-tone equal temperament unless a future version adds an alternate selection: it does not claim its result applies to a different temperament, where the same note name can correspond to a slightly different frequency.

Worked examples

A4 at the default reference gives 440 Hz. A5, one octave higher, gives 880 Hz. C4 (middle C) gives approximately 261.63 Hz.

Method and limitations

Frequency for MIDI note m at reference A4 is A4 × 2^((m−69)/12). Internal values keep full precision and round only for display. This is the same formula Reference Pitch and Cents uses in its note-to-frequency mode; this page exists as a more focused single-direction route.

Why a separate, narrower tool exists

Reference Pitch and Cents deliberately bundles three related jobs behind one set of controls: note-to-frequency, frequency-to-note, and a direct two-frequency comparison. If the only thing you need is a note's frequency, that shared interface asks you to first confirm which of three modes you want. This page skips that step entirely, at the cost of not offering the other two directions, which is a defensible trade for a link arriving from a search or a bookmark aimed at exactly this one job.
